The project involved adding sophisticated motorway optimisation algorithms (ALINEA/HERO) to onramp metering to managing the growing congestion problems.
The results of this project, as reported by the ARRB Group provided:
REDUCTION IN EXCESSIVE DELAY
REDUCTION IN TYPICAL WEEKDAY CONGESTION COST
REDUCTION IN AM PEAK CONGESTION
Main Roads Western Australia

Cairns
Cairns CBD was suffering from traffic congestion, long queues and jaywalking pedestrians due to long pedestrian wait times at controlled intersections.
Transmax was engaged to resolve known traffic signal coordination issues in Cairns. After studying the problem, Transmax developed a requirements specification, and then scoped and delivered a collection of refinements to improve traffic signal coordination.
The project delivered a set of improved coordination plans. Before and after testing of these plans demonstrated the following benefits.
INTERSECTIONS COORDINATED
REDUCTION IN PEDESTRIAN WAIT TIME
REDUCTION IN PEAK TRAVEL TIME
